Will Blepharoplasty Improve Eyesight?

It’s well-known that eyelid surgery can be a dynamic procedure to refresh the upper and lower eyelids, allowing a more youthful appearance in the upper face. However, whether or not blepharoplasty improves your ability to see depends on the condition of your upper eyelids. If you’re affected by “hooding,” which refers to excess tissue from your upper lids interfering with your line of sight, blepharoplasty can certainly enhance vision by removing obstructions. That said, the procedure does not actually improve eyesight or make your vision any clearer. It’s simply a cosmetic procedure designed to address signs of aging around the eyelid contours, and is not intended to correct functional issues like vision loss or eyelid ptosis.
It’s important to remember that temporary vision changes after the procedure are normal as your eyes begin to heal. Blurry vision and light sensitivity are not causes for concern following eyelid surgery. Itchiness, dryness, and tightness are also possible during the recovery period, but all of these reactions should dissipate as the healing process progresses. Rest assured that Dr. Miller will fully inform you of what to expect after blepharoplasty so you have a good understanding of any potential side effects.
